Kochi, Feb 4 : Police have arrested two youths and seized four kg of high quality ganja, valued at Rs 2 lakh, from their procession last night.
Informing this Assistant Commissioner of Police Tom Sebastian today said the arrested were identified as Sayd (28) of Kannur and Shihab (28) hailing from Idukki.
Claiming that this was the highest ever seizure of Ganja in the city, he said there were over 50 small and medium ganja cases had been registered so far by the city police.
Regarding the modus of operandi of the ganja careers, he said since the police have strengthened checking in buses and other mode of transports, the peddlers used to take the ganja in large quantity to Kannur district and other areas through train, and the careers will bring the stuff in their carry bags and travel by trains, which avoid them from checking considering them as students or office goers.
The seizure was made following an information to the Commissioner police, he added.
Since the government had banned use of tobacco products like Pan Parag, use of Ganja was increasing in the and the police put extra vigil to nab ganja vendors, as they were mainly concentrating on students, he added.
