Mysore, Feb 4 : More then 150 seers from various maths in Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts today met Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadesh Shatter in Bangalore and presented a memorandum seeking total prohibition on alcohol and narcotics in the state.
The delegation of seers which left the city was led by Sri Srikanta Swamiji of Virakta math and Sri Siddalinga Swami of Vatal math in district.
According to Sri Srikanta Swami, the delegation urged the state government to enforce total prohibition on alcohol and narcotics across the state.
He said the plight of 'Beda Janangmas' was pitiable and sought SC/ST tag for them. He also demanded a good place to establish the distinct swamijis sangha office.
The seers also advised politicians not to lure voters using alcohol during elections. Alcohol and narcotics are responsible for all crimes and an awareness on their ban was an as essential as a divine job in society, he said.
Like in Punjab, Haryana, Himchal Pradesh and Maharashtra the local bodies should be allowed to take decisions regarding opening of liquor shops, the seers said.
