Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 4 : CPI(M)-led Opposition today staged a walkout from the Kerala Assembly in protest against the government denial to re-investiage the controversial Suryanelli rape case in which senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurian was allegedly involved.

Seeking to move an adjournment motion, Deputy Opposition Leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan demanded a fresh probe in the rape case alleging that Mr Kurian have gone scot-free using political influence.

He also alleged that Sibi Mathew, who led the special investigation team that probed the rape case, showed undue interest 'to save Mr Kurian.'

Alleging that Mr Kurian had sexually harassed the girl, he said the girl repeatedly mentioned his name from the beginning of the investiagation.

But, the investigation agency did not consider her statement while preparing the report, he alleged. 'Now, the girl again wrote a letter, seeking re-investigation in the case, to the Chief Minister. But, the government is not serious about the complaint, denying justice to the rape victim. It is unfortunate," he added.
