BJP slams Shakeel Ahmad for comment on Advani
New Delhi, Feb 4 : The Bharatiya Janata Party today condemned Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmad's remarks on senior BJP leader L K Advani and said the Congress' leader ''has gone beyond all standards of political propriety''.
The BJP said Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh clarify whether Mr Ahmad's comment represented the official line of the Congress party.
''Shakeel Ahmad's comment is highly deplorable and condemnable. He has gone beyond all standards of political propriety and dignity. I would like to ask Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh that does Shakeel Ahmad represent the official line of the Congress party?'' BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
Mr Prasad said the Congress needs to 'restrain' Mr Ahmad.
''What does he mean by saying all this? I think that the Congress party needs to restrain him,'' Mr Prasad said.
The BJP leader said millions of Hindus were uprooted during the unfortunate partition.
''Manmohan Singh, late Inder Kumar Gujral had come from Pakistan after the partition and became the Prime Minister of India. Advaniji had also come like them,'' he added.
Mr Ahmad had reportedly said Mr Advani should have stayed on in Pakistan to serve the Hindus, because they are in bad condition there.
''If he (Mr Advani) were there (Pakistan), he might have done better service to the Hindus, but he certainly had not got the fame and position there, what he has got in India,'' Mr Ahmad had said.
