Jamshedpur, Feb 4 : Former deputy chief minister and senior leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Sudhir Mahto today said that fresh election should not be 'imposed' on the state which was currently under the President's Rule.
The legislators of the suspended state assembly must be given a chance to complete their full five-year term for the service of the 'people', he told reporters here before departing to Dhanbad for participating in the 45th foundation day function of his party.
Mr Mahto said, 'the President's Rule cannot be an alternative to democratic governance. Our party is of the view that the current assembly and its members must complete their full term. We are in favour of an alternative government.'
The JMM has been trying to form an alternative government with Congress and some other parties since the fall of the BJP-led ruling coalition following withdrawal of support by the party early this month. The state assembly has been kept under suspended animation since.
