Tamil Nadu Assembly adjourned after obituary references
Chennai, Feb 4 : The Tamil Nadu Assembly was today adjourned without transacting any business after making obituary references condoling the deaths of former Prime Minister I K Gujral and 14 former members of the House.
Soon after the House assembled for the day, Speaker P Dhanapal moved the condolence resolutions mourning the deaths of 14 former members, including former DMK Ministers Veerapandi S Arumugham and Samayanallur Selvaraj, who died during the intervening period.
The House also observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed members.
Later, the House adopted another resolution condoling the death of Gujral on November 30.
The House recalled the services rendered by him for the country as Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha member and also as Ambassador to Russia.
It also recalled the friendly relations India had with neighbouring countries during his tenure as the External Affairs Minister.
The House expressed grief over his death and expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
After the members observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect, the House was adjourned for the day.
