Amidst protests second phase of PAC polls begins

Hyderabad, Feb 4 :Amidst protests and clashes between the parties,the second phase of Primary Agricultural Co-operative Society (PACS) elections began this morning for 940 societies in the state.

The elections, which commenced at 0700 hrs, will end at 1400 hrs and the results were likely to be announced in the evening.

The elections were notified for 1,484 PACs in the state, out of which office bearers in 475 PACs were elected unopposed.

The government had stayed elections in the case of 74 societies for various reasons, according to officials.

According to reports reaching here, tension prevailed at Nalgonda, Warangal, Adilabad and Kadapa districts, where elections the began following clashes between politial parties.

The first phase of elections were held to 959 PACs in 22 districts across the state on January 31. The ruling Congress party has come out strongly despite the party being entangled in many issues, including Telangana statehood.
