SC dismisses petition for removal of Andhra Pradesh HC judge
New Delhi, Feb 4 : The Supreme Court today dismissed a Public Interest Litigation seeking removal of Andhra Pradesh High Court Judge Justice N V Ramana.
A bench comprising Justices Aftab Alam and Ms Ranjana Prakash Desai also imposed costs of Rs 50,000 on the two advocates who had filed this petition.
A High Court or a Supreme Court Judge can only be removed through impeachment and therefore, the present petition is wholly misconceived and has been filed with an ulterior motive, the judges held.
According to one petitioner, Manohar Reddy, Justice Ramana at the time of his appointment, was a proclaimed offender in a case of rioting and destruction of public property in 1981 when he was a student of Nagarjuna University.
