IPL 6: Mumbai Indians pay whopping Rs. 5.3 crore for Australian Glenn Maxwell, 2.1 crore for Ponting
Chennai, Feb.3 : Sachin Tendulkar-led Mumbai Indians paid a whopping Rs.5.3 crore for emerging Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that will be held later this year.
Maxwell was snapped up by the Mumbai-based franchise even as he scored a duck against the West Indies in a one-day international in Perth on Sunday. Australia has cored 266 for seven.
Maxwell had a base price of 200,000 dollars.
The Mumbai Indians also bought former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting for his base price of Rs 2.1 crore, while the Bangalore-based Royal Challengers paid the same amount for fo,er Indian fast bowler R.P. Singh.
Pune Warriors bought Australian captain Michael Clarke for his base price of Rs. 2.1 crore.
The Delhi Daredevils paid Rs.2.3 crore for South African all-rounder Johan Botha, while Kings XI Punjab secured the service of Australian batsman Luke Pomersbach for Rs. 1.5 crore.
Australian all-rounder James Faulkner, with a base price of 100,000 dollars, was bought for four times that amount (Rs 2.1 crore) by Rajasthan Royals.
Mumbai all-rounder Abhishek Nayar was snared by Pune Warriors for Rs. 3.5 crore
Mumbai Indians also secured service of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes for his base price of 100,000 dollars, while another Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques was picked up for 300,000 dollars by Royal Challengers Bangalore when he had a base price of 100,000 dollars.
Royal Challengers Bangalore also selected Saurashtra fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat for 525,000 dollars (base price 100,000 dollars); Pankaj Singh for 150,000 dollars (base price 50,000 dollars) and West Indian fast bowler Ravi Rampaul for 290,000 dollars (base price 50,000 dollars).
New IPL entrant Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up Sri Lankan Thisara Perera for 675,000 dollars when he put up for auction at a base price of 50,000 dollars. They also picked up West Indies captain Darren Sammy for 425,000 dollars. He had a base price of 100,000 dollars. Sudeep Tyagi and New Zealand all-rounder Nathan McCulum were picked up for their base price of 100,000 dollars each.
New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder, who turned out for the Pune Warriors in the fifth edition of the IPL, was picked up for 260,000 dollars by the Delhi Daredevils. He had a base price of 100,000 dollars.
Kings XI Punjab secured the services of Punjab fast bowler Manpreet Gony for 500,000 dollars. He had a base price of 200,000 dollars.
West Indian fast bowler Fidel Edwards went to Rajasthan Royals for 210,000 dollars on a base price of 100,000 dollars.
Australian and Netherlands fast bowler Dirk Nannes was picked up for 600,000 dollars by Chennai Super Kings on a base price of 200,000 dollars.
Sri Lanka's Ajantha Mendis was picked up by Pune Warriors for 725,000 dollars after being put for auction at a base price of 50,000 dollars.
