Man killed by wild tusker

Kannur, Kerala, Feb 1 : A person was killed by a wild elephant at Makootam, bordering Kerala-Karnataka forest area, early today.

The deceased was identified as C P Hamza (58), a rubber tapping employee of Portland rubber plantation in Makootam.

He encountered the tusker around at 0700 hrs while tapping.

He was found by his colleagues with serious injuries. The colleagues rushed him to to a nearby private hospital at Iritty where he was declared brought dead.

The body was shifted to Virajpet Government Hospital in Karnataka for a post-mortem.

Police and forest department officials from Virajpet visited the spot, family sources said.
