Community radio set for opening in Kerala
Kannur, Kerala, Feb 1 : Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran will inaugurate 'Janvani 90.8 FM', a community radio based at Panoor, on February 3. Station Director Nirmal Mayyazhi told reporters here that Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan would preside over the function. The FM Radio was managed by Academic and Technical Education Development Society (ATEDS), a voluntary organisation based at Mahe of Puduchery state.
Janavani will focus on programmes mainly in the areas of health, agriculture, rural development, education and communal harmony, art and culture of North Malabar.
It also encourage rural people to showcase their talents in arts and culture.
As many as 141 community radio stations were functioning in the country and in Kerala, this was the fifth. Sixty five per cent of the programmes will be in Malayalam and the rest in English, Hindi and Tamil and would be aired around 20 KM radius.
It covers Kannur and border of Kozhikode and Mahe. The broad casting time will be from 0600 to 2300 hrs every day.
