Haasan handled Vishwaroopam episode well: Suneil Shetty
Mumbai, Feb 2 : Bollywood actor Suneil Shetty defended Kamal Haasan on Saturday, saying that he is a sensitive actor-filmmaker and has handled the Vishwaroopam episode well.
'Vishwaroopam', which was supposed to open in cinemas on Friday (January 25), was mired in controversy with some Muslim groups protesting over what they contended as depiction of the community in a negative light.
"Be it an actor or a politician, they are finally individuals. Some people think if they can get publicity through this medium, but Kamal Haasan is a talented filmmaker, director and a sensitive human being, so I think media is also sensationalising the issue for TRPs and making it a piece of news, because this is the age of breaking news.
"We are also in the habit of watching television, if there is breaking news. I think it is an episode that is being handled brilliantly today by those who have to handle it," Shetty told reporters in Mumbai.
After much controversy over his latest multilingual film 'Vishwaroopam', Haasan returned to Chennai city on Saturday and is expected to meet the Muslim protesting groups, seeking to end the ban on the movie in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, a delegation of the federation of Muslim organisation met producer Chandra Haasan on Friday (February 01).
Soon after the meeting, the Muslim leaders informed mediapersons that they were ready for talks over the release of controversial film under the supervision of government officials.
Haasan, who returned from Mumbai, where he was present for the premiere of the Hindi version, said that the film has received an overwhelming response in north India.
"(Q. How has the response to the film been in north India?)
"Fantastic," he said.
The Madras High Court had banned the Tamil version of the film in Tamil Nadu after the state government appealed, fearing law and order problems.
