Save natural resources for energy security: Industry
By Gourab Gupta, Kolkata, Feb 2 : Energy industry experts Thursday said that with the total consumption of hydrocarbon energy growing every year, there is an urgent need to conserve natural resources of oil and gas as much as possible.
Addressing in the valedictory function of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight, the State level Co-ordinator of Oil Industry, Indrojit Bose, said that by successfully applying the process, India could save not only the resources but also money which could be put into other infrastructural developments.
"The impact of conserving gases will impact the future economy," he said. "In this process we engaged more and more school children and college goers to spread our message."
Bose added that the Eastern region consumption of bulk diesel is approximately 80,000 tonnes, while the ratio of West Bengal is 35,000 tonnes.
He noted that the transportation sector consumes the largest part of the entire oil and gas energy.
He also notified that less than 3 lakhs connections out of the total 17 lakhs connections in West Bengal have been blocked so far due to not furnishing the essential documents. He reminded that there will be one gas in each kitchen.
The General Manager of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), M K Sinha, said, "We cannot afford to go on with gas after 30 years if we do not save it now. India generates 1.8 metric ton oil and gas, whereas the world generates 20 metric tons each year."
Sinha added, "India is bound to save it now if we look to secure the future."
General Manager, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), D K Pattanaik said, "It is our duty to ensure this precious energy source is used right where it should be."
A state level quiz and essay writing competition was held to disseminate the message of conservation of oil and gas. The winners of the competitions were also felicitated.
