US: Hillary Clinton resigns, John Kerry takes over
Washington, Feb 2 : US secretary of state Hillary Clinton resigned on Friday as America's secretary of state. John Kerry replaced her.
Clinton has visited more countries in her four years on the job than all her predecessors.
"I am more convinced than ever in the strength and staying power of America's global leadership and our capacity to be a force for good in the world," she said in a letter to President Barack Obama, adding that it had been an honour to be part of his cabinet.
Her resignation became effective at 4pm when Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan swore in John Kerry as the next secretary of state.
"I'm just very, very honoured to be sworn in and I'm very anxious to get to work," Kerry said, adding that he would be at office at 9am on Monday.
