Salman Khan to face culpable homicide charge
Mumbai, Jan 31 : Bollywood superstar Salman Khan will be tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and face up to ten years in prison for a 2002 hit-and-run case that left one person dead and four injured, reports said Thursday.
The 47-year-old actor had been arrested in September 2002, after he ran over the five people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery in Mumbai.
Khan, who was being tried for rash and negligent driving, will now will be charged with culpable homicide following a ruling by a Mumbai court on Thursday.
The magistrate's court accepted the plea of the Maharashtra government that he should be tried under section 304 (II) of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
The 'Dabangg' star has been ordered to appear on March 11 where the new charges will be formally presented against him.
