Swimming great Phelps says 'getting serious' about golf after signing new deal with Ping
Johannesburg, Jan. 31 : Retired U.S. swimming sensation Michael Phelps has signed a golf equipment deal with premium club manufacturer Ping and admitted he was getting serious about the game after he started playing the sport five years ago.
Phelps said that the deal to play a full set of Ping's clubs has already started to pay off, reports Sport24.
Expressing his gratitude to the golfing experts at the company, Phelps said that they helped him choose golf clubs which fit his stance and swing.
The Olympic star added that the experts showed him that it was beneficial for him to play with custom-made clubs, to improve his game, considering his tallness and the length of his arms.
Phelps height, which was a major asset for him at the Olympic pools at Athens, Beijing and London, presented special problems when it came to finding clubs and maximising his potential.
Phelps began his endorsement deal on Wednesday at the US PGA Phoenix Open, where he was paired with reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson.
The swimming legend has set records with 22 Olympic medals and 18 Olympic titles.
