New Delhi, Jan 31 : Defence Minister A.K. Antony Thursday said the government was awaiting a report on an Indian Air Force rescue mission, during which an injured policeman was left behind in a helicopter after an emergency landing forced by an attack by Maoists in Chhattisgarh.
"(We are) waiting for the final report," Antony said on the sidelines of a function here.
He said the air force only provides logistical support and is not involved in direct operations against the Maoists.
Defence ministry sources said a "situation report" was sought from the IAF over the incident following reports that its personnel left behind the policeman after the emergency landing in a forested area Jan 18.
