Private school employees try to picket assembly, held

Puducherry, Jan 30 : As many as 110 members of the federation of private school employees associations were arrested when they attempted to picket the Legislative Assembly today.

They took out a procession from Swadeshi Cotton mills to the Legislative Assembly to picket the assembly to press their five point charter of demands which included that the private school teachers should also be provided with ACP, MACP, LTC, encashment of earn leaves, as government teachers and provision of salary to them on the last day of every month.

As the procession reached the Ambur Saalai,police prevented them and arrested them.

Meanwhile, the Meenava Makkal kazhagam today held a demonstration at Saram demanding that tsunami houses be constructed for the left out at Manalmedu.

The Kazhagam volunteers had already organised several agitations including 'begging' to press this demand and they announced that a demonstration will be held in front fo the collectorate. They gathered at the Avvai thidal, Saram and when they were about to take out a procession,police denied permission and they held the demonstration at the thidal itself.
