Association of physically challenged persons to hold demo

Puducherry, Jan 30 : The Federation for All Category Physically Challenged persons associations would organise a three-phased agitation here to press their demands.

Federation President A Velayudham told newspersons here today that the state of affair of the differently-abled in Puducherry was very pathetic as their basic rights were being denied. The welfare act for them was not being implemented and there was no welfare officer of welfare commission for the differently abled.

The differently-abled persons were not getting any reservation in government employment, he said.

Mr Velayudham charged that there was widespread corruption in the social welfare department and the corporation for the physically challenged, under the pretext of welfare schemes to the differently abled persons. He also demanded an inquiry into the alleged corruption.

Mr Velayudham said to press these demands, the federation would hold a demonstration in front of the social welfare department on February 15, a demonstration in front of the corporation on January 21 and a road-roko will be organised here on February 27.
