Madurai, Jan 30 : Even as some theatres across the state were targeted against screening of actor Kamal Haasan's Tamil movie 'Viswaroopam,' his fans clashed with activists of some Muslim outfits in front of a Cinema hall, prompting the police to resort to a mild lathicharge to chase away the warring groups, here today.
The trouble began, when the activists of Muslim outfits pelted
stones on 'Thanga Regal' Cinema Hall near the Madurai railway junction, where a large number of Kamal Haasan's fans assembled
to view the movie. Enraged over the attack, the actor's fans retaliated and in the ensuing clash the glass panes of the cinema
hall were damaged.
Cops on duty swung into action and chased away both the
groups and restored normalcy.
Some miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on a theatre at
Ramanathapuram, where the movie was scheduled to be screened, triggering a tense situation. The group, which came in
four motorcycles, had thrown a petrol bomb on 'D Cinema' hall,
this afternoon. No one was injured in the bomb attack. Later, they pelted stones on another theatre, adjacent to the D Cinema
hall in which the glass panes were reportedly damaged.
Police have tightened security arrangements at the
theatres after the attack. A search is on to arrest the assailants.
