Jayaprada comes out in support of Kamal Hassan
Rampur, Jan 30 : Cine star turned politician Jayaprada today came out in open support of super star Kamal Hassan saying the politics over his new film 'Vishwaroopam' was uncalled for and unreasonable.
"I am fully with Kamal Hassan who is being harassed unnecessarily over his film which has evoked controversy on the eve of the film's release," she told reporters here.
Jayaprada was also a leading actress from South India before joining the politics and becoming Member of Parliament from Rampur parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
In reply to a query about the threat of Kamal Hassan of leaving the country, the local MP said "I would have said the same thing if I was forced to be in such a position. What else an artist would have said if he had invested all his money into his film and not allowed to release it after protests in Tamil Nadu."
"The court had also said to set up a committee and release the film with deletion of certain portions which were said to be offensive to some sections. Despite the clear court order, the political pressure was being put to stop the film's release," Ms Jayaprada said terming it 'unjust' for a living legend like Kamal Hassan.
"I have worked with the South Indian iconic star in several films and his films always carry some message or topical issue," she said, adding "he deserves a better deal from politicians and society."
