Deoria, Jan 30 : Election Commission of India (ECI) today issued notification for the byelection to Bhatpar Rani assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh which will be held on February 23.
The seat fell vacant following the death of the sitting member and Uttar Pradesh Sports and youth welfare minister Kameshwar Upadhaya.
According to the district returning officer Kumar Ravikant Singh, nominations have started today with the issuance of the notification. The nominations would be accepted till February 6 while the scrutiny of the papers would be done on the next day.
Candidates can withdraw their nominations till February 9, Mr Singh said. Counting of votes would be taken up on Febuary 28.
Over 3 lakh voters will use their franchise at 334 polling booths in the byelection.
The ruling Samajwadi Party has fielded Ashutosh Upadhaya, son of the deceased leader Kamleshwar Upadhyay, in the by-elections. BSP and BJP are also contesting the bypolls.
