AIMS docs perform minimal invasive surgery on hernia patient
New Delhi, Jan 30 : Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) doctors today performed an uncommon corrective procedureof a minimally invasive surgery on a complex hernia patient.
Speaking on the occasion AIMS senior consultant Dr Ved Prakash, who led the team said, the patient had past history of blunt traumatic abdominal injury in his childhood.
There was a large defect in middle portion of diaphragm and
part of large intestine and other abdominal organ herniated through this defect into the thorax, he said.
The patient was counseled and assured that this complex surgery is possible without opening of abdomen and just making
a little hole into his abdomen by minimally invasive approach, which is not a common procedure, he said.
Moreover, the procedure reduces fear factor to a great extent, he added.
