Bhubaneswar, Jan 30 : In a bid to promote buddhist tourism potential in Odisha where as many as 324 buddhist sites were located in different parts of the state,the tourism department is organising a three-day international conclave begininng on February one next.
The conclave on 'Buddhist heritage of Odisha:Situating Odisha in the global perspective' will be held at Udayagiri, a famous buddhist site in Jajpur district.
Over 200 delegates from India and abroad will participate the conclave to juxtapose the religious,cultural and tourist potential of buddhist sites in Odisha.
The congregration will also be attended by some practicing monks and buddhist scholars from India and abroad.About 20 foreign touerists from US, Srilanka,Poland,Nepal,Japan,Korea and United Kingdom besides 75 scholars from different parts of India and as many from Odisha will also partcipate in the three day deliberation.
This apart tour operators, hoteliers and travel agents from Thialand, Singapore and other places woudl also join the conclave.
Odisha Tourism department sources said the idea of holding such an international conclave was to make a modest attempt to showcase the cultural heritage,religious potential and natural beauty of the buddhist sites to entice different kinds of tourists from India and aborad.
