New Delhi, Jan 31 : The Union cabinet is expected to discuss and approve some key amendments in the Lokpal bill on Thursday.

The bill has been pending with the Rajya Sabha for more than a year. A select committee had suggested some changes in it and the government has reportedly agreed to most of them.

The Lok Sabha has passed the bill.

According to reports, among the amendments could be that states have to set up lokayuktas, or anti-corruption regulators, within a year of the bill being passed. Political parties will also be brought under the Lokpal.

The role and scope of the Central Bureau of Investigation is yet to be finalised.

The amended Lokpal Bill will be sent to the joint Parliamentary panel for its approval if it is approved by the cabinet.
