Arunachal Police solve extortion bid
Itanagar, Jan 30 : Arunachal Police have succeeded in solving an extortion threat by arresting Abdul Salam from neighbouring Assam.
Salam, 23, was arrested by a police team from Naharlogun police station with the help of Assam police from Molanpukhri village in Sonitpur district of Assam yesterday, sources said.
The police acted on the basis of an FIR lodged on January 21 by the wife of an IAS officer that she had received SMS threat demanding Rs 5 lakh within 10 days, otherwise the sender would kill one of her two sons.
Earlier, the complainant's driver Abdul Malek, 20, younger brother of Salam, living with her in her rented Polo Colony house at Naharlogun, near here, was arrested as a prime suspect by the police on January 26, sources said.
During interrogation, Malek revealed that he was the mastermind behind the crime.
Police also seized the mobile phone and SIM card which was used to send SMS from Salam and his friend's possession respectively, sources added.
