Cuttack, Jan 30 : Odisha High court has directed the state government to submit the action taken report on the inquiry into the death of Italian tourist Sebastian Contiguglia at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here on December 14.
The tourist was admitted to the hospital on November 25 in a critical condition while suffering from encephalitis and septicemia.
He was first admitted to the ICU of the Medicine Department but later shifted to Pulmonary Medicine ward. However,he was again shifted to the ICU when his condition deteriorated and he died after struggling for a few days without any attendant.
Revenue Divisional Commissioner(Central Division) Arabinda Padhi had ordered a probe into his death after Advocate P R Das filed a complaint and a PIL was filed on behalf of an organisation called Sevak by its president Achyut Kumar Sahoo.
The Cuttack District Collector who was asked by the RDC to probe the incident, had submitted its report after visiting the hospital and examining all the documents relating to the treatment of the tourist.
A division bench of the high court comprising Justices I Mohanty and Raghuvir Das directed the government yesterday to file the action taken report on the findings of the probe conducted by the Collector who had submitted the report to the RDC on January 11.
The report was also submitted before the court by the government counsel yesterday as per an earlier direction of the court. The petitioner had alleged utter negligence on the part of the doctors of the hospital in the treatment of the tourist.
