Rich tributes paid to martyrs in Goa

Panaji, Jan 30 : Goa Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo today paid rich tributes to martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the state and the country, on the occasion of the Martyrs Day in a function held at Azad Maidan here, after placing a wreath at the Martyrs Memorial.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, transport minister, Ramkrishna Dhavalikar, chief secretary B Vijayan, director general of police, Kishan Kumar, general secretary of Goa Freedom Fighters Association, Audumbar Shinkre, president of the Freedom Fighters' Association, Goa, freedom fighters, heads of departments and prominent citizens also paid homage and offered floral tributes at the Martyrs Memorial on the occasion.

A two-minute silence in memory of the martyrs was also observed.

Martyrs' Day is observed on January 30 every year in India. It is on this day in 1948 that the Father of the Indian Nation fell to an assassin's bullet. India observes the day in memory of his martyrdom and of all those who gave up their lives for their country.
