Kanda's casino vessel in Mandovi river to be auctioned if not shifted
Panaji, Jan 30 : Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today told the assembly that casino vessel owned by former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda's company would be auctioned by the government, under Tourism Act, if it is not shifted soon from the Mandovi river, following the expiry of its licence.
He was replying to a question tabled by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo during question hour in the House on offshore casinos.
The Chief Minister further said the permission given to Kanda's company, MV Leela Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd, has lapsed. He said the company has not moved any application for the renewal of licence for offshore casino.
Mr Parrikar said besides this casino, there are three other offshore casinos operating in Mandovi river. The licence of these vessels won't be renewed upon its expiry, he informed.
The home department and commercial tax department had respectively collected Rs 88,39,56,165 and Rs 79,68,04,096 in revene from offshore casinos for the period from April 1, 2010 to December 31, 2012, the Chief Minister added.
