Jaipur, Jan 29 : The Police has summoned author-sociologist Prof Ashis Nandy for probe, in a case registered against him for his controversial comment at the Jaipur Literature Festival here last week, about the state of corruption among OBCs, SCs, and STs

A police spokesman said here today that the author-critic was asked to come to Jaipur at the earliest for interrogations in the case registered against him and lit fest director Sanjoy Roy under the SCs/STs Act at the Ashok Nagar police station here

The festival organisers have also been asked not to leave Jaipur in view of impending investigations

The five-day festival concluded here yesterday. While participating in a session at the festival, Prof Nandy had said, "Most of the people indulging in corrupt practices are from OBC, SC and ST communities." However, he had clarified later that his statement was "misunderstood." "I only meant to say that the corrupt act/action of people from such sections is noticed easily, they are caught whereas people from higher classes succeed in getting away scot-free," Prof Nandy clarified

"You catch a poor selling a black ticket for Rs 20, but, rich with corruption of millions get away generally," the author asserted

"I do feel sorry for misinterpretation of my statement that may have hurt someone," he said

However, the remarks evoked sharp reaction from different quarters including politicians

The Congress, BJP and BSP have condemned the statement

A SCs/STs employees outfit has even lodged an FIR against the author-critic, inquiry in which is pending
