Panaji, Jan 29 : Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today told the assembly that he had spoken to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and also to joint secretary of Oil and Natural Gas Commission about considering the demand of fishermen for reduction of diesel price by Rs 11

He was replying to a discussion raised by Benjamin D'Silva during the zero hour in the House on the closure of all fish markets in Goa in support of the striking trawler owners demand for subsidised diesel

The Chief Minister said people of Goa cannot go without fish for long and told fishermen to buy diesel from retail petrol pumps and avail the subsidy from state government

As the trawler owners had to shell out Rs 61.35 per litre of diesel against Rs 50.23 per litre paid by regular customers, the boat owners are demanding that the price of diesel be brought down and be included in the agriculture category instead of the commercial category, which was shifted recently by the central government
