MoEF gives environment clearance for Mopa airport: Goa CM
Panaji, Jan 29 : Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today informed the assembly that the proposed greenfield airport at Mopa has received environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) yesterday
Replying to a question tabled jointly by independent MLA Vijay Sardessai and Pramod Sawant on the status of work for proposed Mopa airport in the house, the Chief Minister, who is also Airport minister, said the Union government gave the clearance after considering the report of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) which stated that two airports, at Dabolim and Mopa, would serve the state better than just a single airport
He said land measuring 58,04,204 sq mtr was in possession of Transport department and land acquisition for remaining area, including approach road, was underway
He added that an area of 25,395 sq mtr at Dabolim village was acquired and handed over to the concerned departments on June one, 2012
