Tehsildar trapped in bribery case
Thane, Jan 29 : Two people, including the tehsildar of Vasai taluka, were today arrested by the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 4.25 lakh from the complainant
The tehsildar, Vishwas D Gujar, had on December seven, 2012, demanded a bribe of Rs 4.25 lakh from the complainant to issue him a copy of the objection raised by the revenue department in a case, the sources in ACB said
Reluctant to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint against the tehsildar. Acting on the complaint, a team of ACB officials laid a trap near the tehsildar's office this afternoon and caught a clerk, Narendra Gosavi, red-handed while accepting the bribe amount on behalf of the tehsildar from the complainant
Both Gujar and Gosavi were later arrested in this connection
An offence has been registered under sections 7, 12 and 15 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, sources added
