Over 1 lakh Indians to visit Korea in 2013

Mumbai, Jan 28 : Korea is all set to attract over one lakh tourists from India, including business and leisure travellers, during this year, which also marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, an official said today

The move kicked off with the opening of the Korean Cultural Centre in New Delhi last month and the new Korean Air connections starting March, said Jae-Sang Lee, director of Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) here

'Last year, there were 92,000 visitors from India to Korea, this year, we expect to welcome over 1,00,000 Indians,' he said

Starting tomorrow, Korea is hosting the weeklong Special Olympics World Winter Games 2013 in PyeongChang and will be the venue for the 2018 Winter Olympics, besides other major international sporting events, Lee said

In addition, 42 festivals have been designated as '2013 Culture Tourism Festivals' to target tourists from all over the world, he said

With a view to tap Bollywood, KTO plans to build relations with prominent production houses to shoot at the country's picturesque locales with subsidy guarantees, said its deputy director Charles Lim

In March, over 50 delegations from the public and private sector will visit Mumbai as a partner country for the FICCI-FRAMES, he added
