China warns of forest fires
Chinese authorities Monday issued an alert for forest fires in the provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan which have received scarce rainfall this month.
The national forest fire prevention headquarters under the State Forestry Administration said the two provinces have seen little rainfall and above-average temperatures since the beginning of January, Xinhua reported.
Meteorological authorities have forecast sunny weather for drought-hit Sichuan and Yunnan in the following week, which will increase forest fire risks.
The headquarters has ordered authorities to step up patrols to guard against possible fire outbreaks.
