A sub-inspector (SI) was Sunday shot dead by a constable in a police station on the city's outskirts, police said.
Constable Anand Kumar, 45, reportedly shot dead SI Vijay Kumar, 38, with his service rifle after being denied leave and change of duty, police said. Vijay Kumar died while he was being taken to a hospital.
"Vijay Kumar was shot dead by constable Anand Kumar in Rajanukunte police station after a heated argument over being denied leave and change of duty. We are investigating the incident," Inspector General of Police (IGP) Central Amar Kumar Pandey told IANS.
The accused has been arrested.
"We will seek Anand Kumar's custody from court within 24 hours and interrogate him to find out what provoked him to fire three rounds from his service rifle at Vijay Kumar," Pandey said.
Rajanukunte police station is 30 km from Bangalore near Doddaballapur town.
"Anand Kumar shot the SI in the chest and head from a close range," Deputy Superintendent of Police V. Sridhar told IANS.
