The footage of a purportedly obscene dance performance at a Midnapore college on Jan 17, allegedly organised by a students' union controlled by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), has ignited sharp criticism here.
The principal of the college however has denied the responsibility saying he had no idea about this programme which was held on campus.
The party on the other hand has stated that the students' union could not have organised the event without the principal's consent.
This is the second such embarrassment for the ruling party which has drawn criticism for hosting an obscene dance show near Kolkata at a function to commemorate the party's anniversary earlier this month.
Following the incident, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, was reportedly quoted as saying that she has "zero-tolerance" for vulgarity.
She had also suspended a party leader who organized the function.
