2005 case: Asaduddin Owaisi surrenders in court in Andhra Pradesh
Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (MIM) Chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi surrendered before the Sangareddy Court in the district today in connection with a case filed against him for abusing the then Medak District Collector in 2005.
Owaisi and his younger brother, MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who was currently in Adilabad District Jail in hate speech case, obstructed a road widening project in Medak district and abused the then District Collector Anil Kumar Singhal on April 16, 2005.
Cases were filed against the Owaisi brothers and after the duo surrendered before police and obtained bail, they briefly appeared before the court, but stopped appearing after 2010.
Cases under various sections, including rioting and assault on public servant and obstructing duties, among others, were filed against them.
After he surrendered in the court here, Asaduddin was sent to to judicial custody for 14-day.
Later, he was shifted to Sangareddy jail.
