Andhra Pradesh Federation of Textile Associations, in its meeting today decided to observe a bandh on January 24 demanding that the state government withdraw the one per cent VAT on textiles.
Talking to reporters after the meeting of textile associations here, Federation President A Prakash said over one lakh textile traders across Andhra Pradesh will join in the one-day bandh and its members will not pay the VAT till the unifrom tax regime was in place in the country in the form of GST.
He said Andhra Pradesh was the only state that had imposed VAT on textiles and five other states, which imposed the tax earlier, had withdrawn it immediately in the interest of the traders.
The one-day bandh will cost the textile traders in the state about Rs 10 crore due to low season for textile sales.
Textile sales touched over Rs 50 crore a day during the peak season, Mr Prakash added
