Leader of opposition in the Australian Senate and former Forest Minister of Australia Eric Abetz spent some emotional moments in Dehradun where he visited the grave of his grandfather Dr Hugo Seitz for the first time.
Yesterday's visit was a private occasion for the senator as he paid respects at the grave of his grandfather, Dr Hugo Seitz, an FAO expert from Stuttgart, Germany, who died during his stint in Dehradun as part of a UN delegation to set up Timber Engineering division of Forest Research Institute (FRI) in 1953.
While working as Head, Timber Engineering Division of the Institute, Seitz succumbed to a severe attack of typhoid and hepatitis B. He breathed his last and was buried here on October 6, 1953.
After visiting the grave of his grandfather, Senator Eric Abetz visited FRI Dehradun to cherish the memories of his grandfather. He visited the FRI building and the Timber Engineering Division which was set up by Dr Hugo Seitz and appreciated that such old memories are still being preserved by FRI.
Senator Abetz was welcomed by FRI Director Dr P P Bhojvaid. He was accompanied by Dr Jagvinder Singh Virk, Chairman of Indo-Australian Strategic Alliance and Sanjay Singh,President of Indo-Australian Strategic Alliance.
The Senator also interacted with officers and scientists of the institute and promised to have better collaboration between the two countries in the area of forestry research.
