Defending champions Nagaland and last year's runners up Bihar made it to the Under-17s semifinals, while hosts Maharashtra had mixed luck in the Pune Football Club 58th National School Under-17 and 19 Football Girls Championship 2012-13, organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Pune, Maharashtra and Zilla Krida Parishad, at Balewadi Sports Complex, on Saturday.
Nagaland who defeated Maharashtra in the group stage to survive in the Under-17 section scored a 3-0 win over Jharkhand, while Bihar ended Mizoram's run with a 3-0 verdict. However, group toppers Maharashtra went down fighting 1-2 to Haryana, who had so far swamped all opposition with ease.
For Haryana, Sanju and Jyoti score, while Maharashtra's Day 1 hero Shivani Dhamsheti reduced the margin for the home side.
In the Under-19 section, the best result for the hosts came in the form of Maharashtra clinching a spot in the semifinals at the expense of Tamil Nadu. The all-important goal was scored six minutes from time by Nagpur-lass Nirmala Dhurve who set off on a solo and finished.
Maharashtra now takes on Haryana in the last-4 on Sunday. Haryana won 5-4 via the tie-breaker against West Bengal after sharing four goals in regulation time.
