Proteas coach hopes for better performance in ODIs this year
South African coach Gary Kirsten is hoping that his one-day international (ODI) squad will have an improved performance in 2013, starting with the series against New Zealand.
Kirsten said that his team needed to hone their performance, adding that with 23 matches slated for the year, the perfect platform existed for the purpose, reports Sport24.
Kirsten said that he would be rotating his bowlers, specially Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel during the series, as they had high workloads in the Test format.
Mentioning the importance of preparing for future World Cups and an important tournament in June, Kirsten said that it was necessary to identify the key players in certain situations.
He added that the next eight games for South Africa, three against New Zealand and five against Pakistan will be a better indicator of the fact.
The immediate focus of the South African team is a series victory against New Zealand.
