As many as 5,17,216 children in the age group of 0-5 years in East Godavari district will be covered by the intensive pulse polio programme to be conducted in two rounds-first on January 20 and second on February 24.
District Collector Neethu Kumary told reporters here today that seven lakh doses of polio vaccine was being kept ready for these two rounds.
She said the state government had released Rs 48 lakhs for the implementation of the programme and 7,158 medical and health staff, 6,000 Anganvadi, IKP and Dwcra workers are being deployed.'As many as 3,250 special teams are also being constituted to take up administering of polio drops to children at their door steps.
In East Godavari District, three polio cases were reported in Samalkot, Gadimoga and Parlaopet areas during 2007 and a single case in 2008.
Since then, the district has been free from polio incidence.
Every effort is being made to prevent recurrence of polio in future also by effective implementation of the pulse polio programme.
Special rallies will be taken up by Medical and Health Department to create awareness among the people on the need for immunizing the children from polio.
Special care will be taken up to cover the children cent percent by polio vaccination even by deputing teams to slums and extension areas, work spots in fields, multi storied apartments and public places like bus station complexes s and railway stations' she added.
