Modi cheer for AIADMK on MGR's 96th birth anniversary

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi heaped praise on AIADMK founder and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MGR on the occasion of his 96th birth anniversary today.

Mr Modi, on a private visit to the city, paid rich tributes to MGR on the occasion of his birth anniversary and said MGR had "brought joy to the lives of many people" through his developmental and welfare schemes.

This was Mr Modi's first visit to the city after being re-eleected as Gujarat for a third successive term.

He was addressing the BJP workers at the airport.

Earlier, Mr Modi, cheered the AIADMK workers by tweeting "in Chennai today. After being re-elected by the people of Gujarat, this is my 1st visit to Tamil Nadu and Chennai".

In an another tweet, the Gujarat CM said, "Today is 96th birth anniversary of legendary former Tamil Nadu CM and evergreen hero of Tamilians, Thiru MGR. I greet all his fans and followers".

It is a well known fact that Mr Modi share a very good rapport with AIADMK Supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who was among the dignatories to attend his swearing-in ceremony in Gujarat.

Mr Modi also had attended the swearing-in ceremony of Ms Jayalalithaa in May 2011 after her party swept the Assembly elections with a landslide victory.
