Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah today inaugurated the four-day seventh International Congress on French and Francophone studies organised by the SRM University at its campus in suburban Kattankulathur.
In his address, the Governor said language was a medium of expression.
"It is the learning of a language that will strengthen the bonds of friendship, which in turn will facilitate communication, cultural exchange, education and harmony among people," he added.
The International Congress on 'Espace Francais Et Francophone: Le Monde En Marche (French And Francophone Studies: A World on the move) was being organised by Association of Indian Teachers of French (AITF) in collaboration with SRM University.
Noting that the initiatives taken by the AITF and faculty, sciences, humanities, SRM University in imparting French language deserves appreciation, the Governor said the French teachers deserve a praise for their significant contribution to the development of French studies in India.
"Teachers are the moulders of the youth and the builders of tomorrow. It is befitting that the teachers of French who have made a mark in their fields of specialisation and have contributed significantly to the development of French studies in India are honoured," he added.
