Puducherry unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) today demanded a white paper on the financial crisis prevailing in the union territory.
CPI(M) Secretary V Perumal, in a statement here today, urged the N R Congress Government here to adopt constructive measures to put an end to 'back door appointment' and to issue appointment orders to those who were selected for various government jobs.
He also urged the Centre to stop it's step motherly attitude to the non-Congress government here and to assist the government in developmental measures considering the welfare of the people of Puducherry.
Mr Perumal said the controversial appointment of Finance Secretary in the union territory was confusing the people here and the party felt that it was a ploy of the central and state governments to divert the attention of the people here.
He said due to the wrong policy of the Congress government in the past ten years, the loan due of the administration to the Centre had risen to Rs 4,671 crore.
This was 35 per cent more than the GDP here, he added.
Because of this, the move of the government to get external loan was also hampered, he said.
Criticising the N R Congress Government for the introduction of VAT in a bid to mobilise more revenue, Mr Perumal also condemned it for not taking steps to collect the tax arrears from distilleries and petrol pumps which run into several crores of rupees.
