Govt in a fix over appointment of finance secretary
The Puducherry administration which is reeling under severe financial crisis may find itself in a fix when a central team arrives here tomorrow to review the public account of the administration, due to a controversy over the appointment of finance secretary here.
Last week the finance portfolio was taken away from Rajiv Yadhuvamshi and Tourism Secretary W V R Murty was made the finance secretary. Due to this act, Mr Yadhuvamshi reportedly refused to support the deeds of the government and directed for speedy mobilisation of revenue, including tax arrears.
However, the very next day a joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs declared the order reallocating portfolios for Mr Yadhuvamshi null and void and declared that he would continue as the finance secretary.
Chief Secretary Mrs Sathyvathy issued a fresh order brushing aside the order of the joint secretary MHA permitting Mr Murthy to assume the charges of finance secretary.
