Dismissing claim that they are part of Ezhava community, the Thiyya Mahasabha in Kerala today said its members will not participate in a meet convened by the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) here on February 2.
Talking to reporters here, Thiyya Mahasabha Vice-President M C Sadanandan and General Secretary Puthukkudi Purushothaman said concerted efforts were being made to establish that Thiyyas were part of Ezhava Community eying reservation quota meant for the former.
Claiming Thiyyas as a separate community historically and socially, they said Edgar Thurston's book 'Castes and Tribes of South India,' also corroborated this fact.
The Mahasabha would submit a memorandum to the government seeking a seven per cent quota for the community soon, they added.
