Punjab court sentences rapist in 9 days
A Punjab court has convicted and sentenced for ten years a rape accused in nine days after the chargesheet in connection to the case was filed.
The convict, Jai Prakash Diwedi, has been sentenced to 10 years jail term on Thursday.
Additional District and Sessions Judge JS Bhinder on Thursday convicted and sentenced Diwedi for kidnapping and then raping a minor girl of Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. He also tried to sell off the girl later.
Diwedi kidnapped the girl, who worked in a factory in Ludhiana, and raped her for 15 days after taking her to the national capital New Delhi last year, reports said.
The Punjab Police on Jan 2 filed chargesheet in connection to the case in the court.
According to reports, Rs 90,000 fine has been imposed on Diwedi.
"This is fastest trial so far," a senior police official of Hoshiarpur said.
"Faster a trial is held, it acts as a deterrent," he said.
