Gujarat Govt planning to formulate sports policy: CM
To promote sports in Gujarat, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said his government is planning to draft a sports policy so that more and more students may take interest in various fields of sports.
Speaking at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium here on the outskirts of the city after its inauguration, the Chief Minister said to create such an atmosphere in the state, government has organised the Khel Maha Kumbh with the intention to promote sports.
He appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the students from the rural parts of the state in the sports and emphasized on utilizing the big grounds for multi purpose of sports events and not just cricket.
Modisaid his government is also planning to set up sports schools in the state to enhance the sports activities.
Earlier, BCCI president N Srinivasan praised Gujarat for being a progressive state in the country and for having three cricket associations - Gujarat Cricket Association, Saurashtra Cricket Association and Baroda Cricket Association.
The state has provided very good cricketers, especially from Saurashtra, he said.
He said three new cricket stadiums have been constructed in India.
The venues are SCA Stadium at Khanderi near Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharmshala, where England will play their three one-day international matches against India. The BCCI president also praised the SCA Stadium for creating state-of-the-art facilities for the players.
